The National Assembly has approved President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for the issuance of an additional 500 million dollar Eurobond in the international capital market. The request was approved in both chambers of the National Assembly, after the committees mandated to consider the request, submitted their reports recommending that it should be approved. The funds to be raised from the International Capital Market are to be used in funding the 2016 budget deficit. The House of Representatives has therefore mandated its Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management to monitor the utilization of the loan.

EFCC discovered the sum of 49 Million Naira at the Kaduna International Airport. Officials of the Kaduna zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have discovered the sum of 49 Million Naira at the Kaduna International Airport. The zonal Head of Operations, Bappa Ibrahim, who briefed journalists on the discovery, said that the cash believed to have been laundered by a yet to be identified person, was stuffed inside five black sacks weighing 150 kg and was recovered where they were abandoned by the owner at about 8:00 pm on Monday. Explaining further, he said the suspect who is still at large, abandoned the sacks containing the cash during a routine baggage screening at the security check point inside the terminal building. Dana Air Crash: Accident Investigation Bureau Releases Final Report The Accident Investigation Bureau has released the final report of investigations into the crash of Dana aircraft 992 which occurred on June 3, 2012. The report stated that the plane lost power from its two engines. The second engine is said to have lost power shortly before the plane was due to land. The aircraft crashed at the Iju Ishaga area of Lagos, killing all on board and six persons on the ground. The AIB further stated that it made four recommendations, each targeted at the engine manufacturer, Dana Airline, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority. Enugu Internal Revenue Board Seals Off Eight Banks The Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue has sealed off eight banks in the metropolis, for failure to remit about 1Billion Naira tax to the government. The exercise which started on Monday morning at about 5:30am, affected Access Bank PLC, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Skye Bank, Union Bank, Unity Bank, Heritage Bank, Keystone Bank and Sterling Bank, in the metropolis. The Chairman, Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr Emeka Odo made this known to newsmen in Enugu, that the board obtained an order from the state High Court to seal the affected banks. Mr Odo, said sealing of the banks which is the first phase of the enforcement exercise on the major companies and institutions will remain under lock and key, to ensure that they perform their civic obligations to the state government. The organisation also said at least 4.5 million people in the region would be needing urgent food assistance. A representative of the United Nations, Mr Patrick David, made the disclosure in Abuja during a stakeholders’ meeting on food security in northern Nigeria. Mr David said the situation was worsened by the Boko Haram insurgency, as well as the persistent clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the region.
